Darkened Theatre, Dark

if there were leaves they'd have fallen
if there were people they've all gone
the streets are dark with a forgotten rain
and the lights have gone out in the theatre again
popcorn's cold and the curtain's called
door's are locked, posters peeled from the wall

this was the scene of our first kiss
this was the moment of a granted wish
the girl gets her prince and the hero gets the girl
standing all alone with their backs to the world
but the lights went out in the marquee sign
we knew the words but never spoke the lines

if there was a script we must have forgotten
and if there was a way we must have lost it
this wasn't how it was supposed to have ended
if we'd listened we'd know we meant it
but the lights are all out in the theatre tonight
the show is over, thank you and good night.
